Dr Bike is Go Veloโs visiting bike maintenance service.
A qualified cycle mechanic visits schools, communities and workplaces, making minor repairs to bikes.
The customer gets a tick sheet, which gives details of repairs made and any further work that is necessary.
Dr Bike encourages anyone who attends these sessions to use their local bike shop for major repairs.
Promoting Safer Cycling
ย
โDr Bike makes all the difference to the children and their chance to engage.โ
Go Velo runs regular Bikeability sessions for schoolchildren, and Dr Bike visits schools in advance, as part of this service, to assess the bikes the small children bring to school.
This is an excellent way of discovering whether bikes are best-suited for their riders, and not too big, too small or in need of repair to make them safe.
Where Dr Bike finds a bike isnโt suitable, or safe, the school can match another bike to the child, one that has been fixed to the highest standards.
This gives the school full confidence in allowing children to participate in Bikeability.
And parents appreciate this service too, as they can go to a repair shop with the clear knowledge of what work they require.
โWithout Dr Bikeโs skill-set and adaptability, many of my children would never take part in this life skill and miss out on a healthy, active future.โ
In schools, Go Veloโs Dr Bike service is funded by Cycling UKโs Big Bike revival. When visiting communities and workplaces, funding for Dr Bike comes from Connecting East Lancashire.
โWithin days of Bikeability, the bike racks are full, and you can see children happily riding to and from school with new found confidence and ability.โ
