Our ace instructors spent the last few weeks at Tor View Specialist Learning Community delivering Level 1 and 2 Bikeability. It's so good to know we are making a difference and helping people learn skills for life. Here's what they had to say
"Hi, thank you so much for running this course with our students. All our students have special educational needs and therefore having the ability to safely access the community to become an active part of it means such a lot. Many of our students do not have the confidence to get out and about without an adult and hopefully this will help them to build on their confidence and develop essential life skills, whilst taking care of their health and wellbeing. Thanks again you have been amazing.
From Julie and all my students at Tor View School."

Here’s Pendle’s MP Andrew Stephenson observing one of our Bikeability sessions. It was great to discuss all things cycling and his enthusiasm for what we are doing.Last month I was pleased to join Go Velo Ltd and students from Lord Street Primary School in Colne to observe a Bikeability lesson.

Bikeability is Department for Transport’s flagship national cycle training programme for schoolchildren in England, and is a key component of the Government’s long term vision for cycling and walking.

Bikeability training provides schoolchildren with a life skill. It is a practical training programme, enabling trainees to cycle safely and confidently on today’s roads. More than 3 million children have now received Bikeability training since the programme’s inception in 2007.

The Prime Minister’s vision for cycling and walking published in July set an aspiration to “offer cycle training to everyone who wants to undertake it, whether free or at a nominal charge”. This includes both children and adults. 2019/20 was a record year for the programme with more than 420,000 training places delivered. Bikeability training has now resumed in schools and training is delivered in a COVID secure environment.

Thank you Waterfoot Primary School, Rossendale - super quick turn around. 4 working days from initial booking to training starting and a huge 90 children taking part. That's incredible organisation.

"Even though we had a quick turn around getting letters out and the children ready, all the staff have been extremely happy with they way it has been organised and run. We have known each day what time to have the children ready and what they have needed and the instructors have done their best to ensure that the children have had what they needed.
From the children, they have all been extremely happy and upbeat about the training they received, especially those who are now able to ride a bike and do so more confidently. They are very proud of themselves and a number of them have thanked us for organising it for them.
Below are some messages from parents when I sent the message to them that they were doing the training:
Glad you’re still doing this sort of thing! Sal is very excited x
Sal loved it. In fact he’s bringing his bike to school tomorrow. We only 5 mins walk away!"

Our instructors are bending over backwards to be inclusive, whilst providing Bikeability in schools during these ever changing times. It’s lovely to get this feedback from one school and we are all delighted to hear this.

“I just wanted to say a big thank you from Yealand. Through dedication and work one of the Year 6 was able to complete the training which we really appreciated. Giving that extra time and consideration to her needs and supporting the school to ensure she completed the training before the end of her primary years was much appreciated.”
