What qualities do I need?

Fun loving and enthusiastic with a passion for getting people cycling. You need to have the ability to think on your own two feet, be keen to learn, be a team player and importantly be super flexible in your attitude and willingness to travel. Experience in teaching or training and / or a passion for cycling is a must.

CYCLE INSTRUCTORS / EVENT SUPPORT PERSONNEL WANTED – LANCASHIRE

Go Velo Ltd are looking for excellent communicators to deliver fun, inspiring and confidence boosting Bikeability cycle training courses in primary schools across Lancashire. The work you do is highly valued and the successful candidate with be trained to become a government approved, National Standard instructor. The role will appeal to individuals who enjoy any form of cycling and/or have some previous experience or a strong interest in coaching, teaching or working with children in schools.

Position: Cycle Instructor / Event Support

Hours: Mostly term time within a school day, however extra hours may be available

Pay: £13 per hour

Job Type: Casual Contract

Location: All Lancashire districts, we cover a large geographical area – flexibility and willingness to travel is essential.

The role: Our aim is to inspire people with a love of cycling by giving them the confidence and skills to cycle more often. Bikeability cycle training is a fun, exciting and practical programme promoting the use of bicycles as an enjoyable form of transport.

Our Instructors work on a casual basis, in pairs or as a team with other Go Velo instructors. The instructing will predominately involve training children in primary schools to Bikeability Level 1 and 2 during school hours, over 4 days in each week. We also deliver a variety of other cycling services to children and adults. Hours are agreed in advance and the work requires an enhanced DBS disclosure which will be paid for by Go Velo Ltd.

You may have experience of the following: Coach, Teacher, Instructor, Trainer, Mentor, Tutor, Lecturer, Guide, Adviser, Educator, Leader, Speaker, Outdoor Education, Cycling, Teaching, Coaching, Instructing.

Go Velo runs a registered Bikeability Scheme. Bikeability is like the old cycling proficiency – but is even better! Its designed for current road conditions and progressively teaches how to ride a bike confidently. We can even teach you how to ride a bike!! Certificates, badges and booklets are issued for each level.

Instructor Training

As a Recognised Delivery Centre, we offer the 1st4Sports Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training for both new and existing instructors and is ideal for anyone who wishes to work as a paid cycle instructor.

EVENTS

Go Velo loves events! Globe Velo 24 and The Santa Ride saw riders taking part at The Steven Burke Sports Hub raising money for charity. If you want to promote cycling and sustainable transport or raise money for charity, get Go Velo to come down and support your event with our Ride leaders, pedal powered Smoothy Maker, Dr Bike and Try a Bike roadshow.

Inclusive Cycling – Go Velo provides cycling opportunities and experiences for everyone wishing to take part, including riders with a disability. Go Velo makes every effort to include everyone and actively seeks specialist equipment where necessary to enable full participation.

BIKE MAINTENANCE

Let Dr Bike have a look and diagnose any problems. Minor ailments will be remedied on the spot, anything more serious will be given a prescription. This fab scheme is offered to schools, colleges, places of work, in fact to whoever wants it!

Cycling as a leisure activity, a sport and a means of travel is equally suitable for the very young, the very old, male and female, and riders with a disability. It is universally popular. We are able to help just about anyone!

DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT…

The administration was also faultless and placed little extra work on already busy school staff- much appreciated. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable, worthwhile and lifelong learning experience.
I have been teaching for over 30 years and have been involved in many initiatives involving outside agencies- I strongly believe that bike training that properly prepares children to ride safely on the road is one of the most worthwhile. These young people WILL ride their bikes on roads for which they deserve proper training. it would be negligent of us not to be preparing them properly; a truly important life skill. The roads around our school do not present the easiest and most accessible training environment- your instructors had clearly evaluated the situation very thoroughly and maximised the opportunities. They even ordered good weather!
